Manning Art Prize 2011

The Friends of Manning Regional Art Gallery invite all Australian artists to submit photographs or digital images of one or two works for the biennial Manning Art Prize 2011.
Section A)  2D art, any medium
Section B)  3D art, any medium (no installations)
There is no theme for the Art Prize this year.

Conditions of Entry

The size of hanging works should not exceed 2 metres wide and 2 metres high (inc. frame). Stretched canvas is considered framed.
‘D’ rings MUST be on each side of hanging works. Works not suitably prepared for hanging or display will not be exhibited.
3D works to be displayed inside must not exceed 33 kg.
Outside 3D works exceeding 33kg must be installed by the artist.
Entries must be the original work of the entrant. Entries must have been completed within twelve months prior to the exhibition and not exhibited in any other competition or any Regional Gallery within a 200 km radius of Taree.
Name and address of entrant, title, price of work and section must be clearly marked on all works.
Late entries will not be accepted.

Selection of Works

An independent selection panel will view all images and select the exhibition from all entries received.  All entrants will be notified of the outcome of selections by August 19 . Works selected for exhibition and judging will be listed on the website www.fogsmanningvalley.com.au.

Judging

The judge will view all works on display and select one winner for the MAJOR ACQUISITIVE award of $10,000. This work will be donated by the Friends of the Manning Regional Art Gallery to the Greater Taree City Art Collection. From the remaining entries, three non-acquisitive 2D awards of $1,000 and two 3D awards of $1,000 will be selected. The decision of the judge is final and no correspondence or discussion will be entered into.

Entry

The entry fee is $30.00 per artwork (non-refundable) for a maximum of two works per artist.
Digital images may be emailed (no larger than 1 meg) to taree.manning.gallery@gtcc.nsw.gov.au with artist details or supplied on CD (PC compatible).
Photographs must accompany the entry forms and be well labelled and clearly described.
If the entry fee has not been received by August 12, selected works will not be hung -  not negotiable.  Any work is eligible for one award only.
ALL WORKS MUST BE FOR SALE and the Friends of the Gallery retains a commission of 25%.

Insurance and Transport

Insurance is the responsibility of the artist.
Artworks inside the Gallery are covered by Gallery insurance. The organisers exercise all care but will accept no liability for loss of or damage to works.
Transport costs to and from the exhibition are the responsibility of selected artists.

Delivery of Works

All artworks to be delivered to
MANNING REGIONAL ART GALLERY
12 MACQUARIE STREET, TAREE.

by September 9 between the hours of 10am to 4pm Wednesday to Saturday and 1pm to 4pm Sundays.

Collection of Works

Artists must collect their works between 2pm and 4pm on Sunday, October 23 and Monday 24 between 10am and noon. Works not collected within 14 days of this date will be disposed of at the discretion of the Friends of the Manning Regional Art Gallery.

September 17 – Gala Opening Saturday, 6.30 pm. (One complimentary entry for each selected artist)

October 23 -  Exhibition Closes Sunday, 4pm

October 23/24 – Collection of works by hand from Gallery, Sundaybetween 2pm and 4pm and Monday between 10am and noon.
Gallery Opening Hours

Monday 19 to Saturday 24 September,10am to 4pm.  Sunday 25, 1pm to 4pm.
Following weeks, Wednesday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm.    Sundays, 1pm to 4pm.

Judges: 

Ms Sharni Lloyd, Director of the Glasshouse Gallery, Port Macquarie.  Sharni and her team opened the first Regional Gallery in Port Macquarie and is now Gallery Director of the new and award winning Glasshouse Regional Gallery. she has worked in the art industry, educational and arts administration for over 30 years and has a commitment to profile regional artists.

Ms Jude McBean, Director of the Grafton Regional Gallery.
Jude McBean is recognised for her commitment to the visual arts and her contribution to the development of the visual arts in NSW through the Regional Galleries Association of NSW. Through her team’s work at Grafton Regional Gallery the lauded Jacaranda Acquisitive Drawing Award has grown to become a nationally significant competition and the Gallery is renowned for its support and promotion of outstanding regional artists and for one of the states most important public art collections.
